Mr. Martyr (Colour Version)

Mr. Martyr (Colour Version)

This colour version of this piece was shown for the first time as part of 'Necropolis - The Dark Arts Group Show' at the Congregation Gallery, Los Angeles. It was an honour to have shown with so many talented artists.

Liber dAemn

Here's a few pages from a surrealist grimoire I'm slowly compiling whilst completing my main projects and preparing for Samhain (Halloween). Think 'Codex Seraphinianus' meets 'The Magus by Francis Barrett'.

Weed-Soos Coat of Arms

A Coat of Arms I was comissioned to design Matt Weed and Orsolya Soos' marriage.  The motto is Latin "Amor Aetemus" and translates to 'Love Eternal'. I attempted to stick as much to heraldic rules as possible while making a more modern design. A fun and challenging project. Congratulations to Matt & Orsolya!

The Specimen Synth & Muffler Mouth Vocoder/Sampler

Two VST synthesizers I made with Synth Edit a few years ago. The GUI design was one of the funnest parts of building these. I just tried them out again and they still work and sound great. I will likely do some more recording with them in the near future. They were so much fun to make, I think I may start a new one soon as well.

The Hill

This one was started in 2006 and got about two thirds of the way done when I must have moved and filed it away. Recently I rediscovered it and decided to finish it. This is exactly why I usually just do monochrome with ink and graphite then add colour in Photoshop because physical colouring just takes too long to get my desired effect. Pigment liners and pencil crayons on paper.

Digital Paint I

A few select digital paintings from 2003-2005. I made these with customized standard and art history brushes in PS all created from scanned images of physical artistic media.

Eminent Domain, April 2nd, 2011

Eminent Domain, a monthly concert series of improvised experimental sound at Somewhere There Studio, Toronto. I performed a duet with William Davison of the Recordists for the April installment of the series. Other performers included a duet between Chris Strickland on amplified acoustic guitar & Joda Clément on his MS-20 synthesizer and a trio with Pau Torres playing synthesizer, Tomasz Krakowiak on percussion and Chandan Narayan on Auto-harp and Swaramandal. My setup was based around patching in a Kaossilator and a home-built Thingamagoop 2 into the CV input channels on my Yamaha CS-15D. The Kaossilator also went out to a Kaosspad Mini accompanied by dual Buddhamachines set slightly out of phase from the other. While all this was going on, William had many types homemade goodies and hacked toys with other unconventional instruments such as a shell with contact microphone played with a violin bow. Much to our disappointment the show was not recorded. Recording devices won't be neglected in the future. Special thanks Joda and Chandan for having us and to Nigel for the photos.

Red Mother

Skateboard design for Steam Whistle Brewery's Design a deck art show 2009 at the Baitshop Gallery, Toronto. Created in photoshop using a drawing tablet and below is the final painted skateboard along side the original design. I hand painted it on the board with acrylic and inks, then a few layers of gloss. Another fun project with the brewery.

The Hunter & other characters

Conceptual designs I created for the animated film '9', unfortunately as far as I know they were not used. However, I believe there is a sequel in the works. My website is still offline at the moment but I hope to have it back up soon.

Dreams of the Automatist

I'm working on a new series consisting of further studies concerning surrealist automatism and modulation technique. These two pieces are sort of prototypical for what I'm currently working on right now, large pencil works and even a few pieces I'm carving from wood. As the series progesses I will post updates and finally hope to exhibit them some place once completed.

2010

This drawing was started during the creation of my series 'Visions of Another Place' but wasn't completed until a few months ago when I re-discovered it and decided to finished her up. One of my personal favourites from the series now that it has been added.

Pseudo Euphemism

Pseudo Euphemism

2004

Digital sequence of images inspired by a dream I had in 2003 where I was on a bus with a close friend at the time and driving through a heavily industrialized area someplace, somewhere. Labyrinths of pipes and smokestacks stretching as far the eye could see, I would call it a nightmare had I actually been there. Along the way, the driver started to swirve in and out of the lanes on the road. He finally lost control crashing the bus into a building and as this happened or right before, my friend turned to me and said "Pseudo Euphemism", I remember it clearly. I  had actually never even heard the term 'Euphemism' before and was forced to look it up. A completely baffling dream...

Sky+Demon, a short film

Sky+Demon
 2010

An experimental short film created with original footage of clouds, fire and a few other things then composited in premiere with added 3d effects made in Lightwave3D and Particle Illusion. Piece was constructed as part of 'Movement comma Movement, collective dream 26', a multimedia show at 253469 Gallery, Toronto with various other artists including Wes Rickert, Robert Morpheal and Istvan Kantor. It was accompanied by a live ambient soundtrack performed by dAeve. Enjoy!

Visions of Another Place

Visions of Another Place

Series of over 50 drawings exploring visions, dreams and hallucinations that was started in 2006 and finished around the beginning of 2009.  The complete series was exhibited at the Whippersnapper Gallery, Toronto as part of their show 'Art for chilled hearts' in Febuary 2009. Here are a few highlights, I am slowly adding colour to the series in photoshop so one can expect a future exhibition of colour versions...

Egregore

Egregore

"Egregore is an occult concept representing a "thoughtform" or "collective group mind", an autonomous psychic entity made up of, and influencing, the thoughts of a group of people."

Egregore, 2009
Piece made from about 50 digital photos, I ended up using the image on a skateboard for Steam Whistle Brewing's Design a Deck annual show at the Baitshop Gallery, Toronto. For the application on the actual board I reproduced the collage in by printing out layers and adhering them to the wood using strong glue. This allowed me to produce hints of depth by bevelling certain areas and building up others. Afterward I coated the whole piece with a nice gloss. Unfortunately my photo of it was a bit out of focus but here is an image of the final board design which is close to how the final piece looked in any case:

Evocation of a Dream: Parts 1 and 2

Evocation of a Dream: Parts 1 and 2. First 2 parts of an experimental short film created in 2008, unfortunately part 3 was lost and will never be finished or released. The film explores uncoventional compositing techniques and utitilizes many types of effects and sound. Many of the elements and footage are also at times featured in my live video setup during shows and performances. Enjoy!
